I’m releasing this list in May to make sure you have time to skim through tutorials, decide what you’re doing, plan your projects, purchase any needed materials, etc.
Of course, you’re probably not going to try 30+ new crafts in a month. But I encourage you to go through the list and choose at least one new technique you’ve never tried and prepare to give it a go!
I’ve done the work of collecting tutorials, resources, and free patterns for you. You just have to try it. You don’t even have to FINISH a project. Just get started and get a feel for the craft!
(not sponsored, lol)
This challenge will be taking place starting the 1st of June each year for the purposes of sharing our progress on discord, through instagram/twitter hashtags, or otherwise sharing our work online. That way we can all encourage each other and pull inspiration from each other as we all learn new things!
That said, there is no end date. Nothing is stopping you from trying more than one (Other than your own free time limits I suppose).
You can do just one in June, do one a week, or just slowly pick at this list over the coming years. Whatever you want to do! No rules, just have fun creating!
Maybe we can do it again as a community next year as well, though. ;)
Feel free to double up as well! For example, make some chicken scratch embroidery on some scrap gingham fabric, then patchwork it together with other scraps as a crazy quilting or slow stitching piece, and appliqué something fun on top of that, then edge the whole thing with some custom cording. Go wild, and have fun!
Ok that makes it sound so negative. I just wanted to continue the alliteration.
Point being, July is our time to reflect on what we learned in June. Whether you enjoyed the crafts you picked, never want to do it again, or never even finished your project.
It’s time to think about future projects, think about combining these new skills with other crafts you already enjoy, or realize you’re still eager to attempt a craft you didn’t quite have time to in June.
Consider whether you want to upgrade your tools / materials for the craft you tried, or if you’re fine with your DIY/basic options.
Spend some time congratulating others on what they accomplished last month too! And maybe find some inspiration for your next project at the same time.
